VENICE · The Venice Biennale has for over a century been one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. Established in 1895, the Biennale has an attendance today of over 370,000 visitors at the Art Exhibition.
The 54th International Art Exhibition will run 4th June through 27th November 2011, directed by Bice Curiger and titled ILLUMInations .
The title of the 54th Exhibition, literally draws attention to the importance of such developments in a globalised world. I am particularly interested in the eagerness of many contemporary artists to establish an intense dialogue with the viewer, and to challenge the conventions through which contemporary art is viewed.
