the extraordinary challenge of bonding together font picture and sound, and at the same time establishing the subject, without telling everything in advance, lead to the development of a new (character) defining genre:
the cinema of titles
when during the mid 50ies film companies committed to mention all participating artists in the opening credits, it was mainly saul bass, wayne fitzgerald and maurice binder, who recognized this legal requirement to be a form of expanded space.
the exhibition VORSPANNKINO gives insight into a contemporary visualization of the phenomenon.
