BERLIN · we had a fantastic opening of the Container Architecture Exhibition yesterday.

Jure gave us some historical background about containers and introduced us to some of the most significant container architecture from around the globe. the tent was totally packed and we had many interested guests who also wanted to start their own container project, for instance a hotel in Istanbul or a design center in Auroville (India).

the participants were also quite responsive, many questions were answered and myths uncovered. for example, most of us thought that containers are easy to get, thats why building with them could become a common practice... wrong. containers are mostly in use, travelling from place to place until they are completely rotten. that's why they are rarely used for construction.

we also invited our guests to create their own container architecture by using our container models. after a few drinks we had some very interesting results!

Luis and Espin did the first try...nobody wanted to take apart the construction cause it looked so perfect and yet improbable. David was more pragmatic and made Babel Tower 2.0 whereas Achille made a Waste Highrise for Napoli (which would be very much needed!). Samo surprised us with a church for disgarded religions, Jay moved from containers to a Nomadic Cultural Shift Engine. but Kai wanted to reach the sky! ...and it obviously crushed under his eyes. Kuc instead created a Parkour Gap Skyscraper with no staircase... you will have to climb up to your office every morning!

and since we were already in camping mood we had a spontaneous jam, with trumpet, guitars, cajon...

thank to Oren & Sasha for the delicious BBQ! and no, we didnt grill any DREADS!

if you missed the opening..…. come to see the exhibition! it will be on for the next 3 weeks. after Berlin the exhibition travels to Seattle, where it will be presented in the American Institute of Architects Gallery in September.

watch this interview with Jure Kotnik by Razzy... and another huge thanks goes to Tanja Georgieva, for managing to transport the exhibition from Ljubljana to Berlin!!!

the exhibition runs from the 2nd of august until the 31st of august
