Having Germany as the guest country and Jalisco as the guest state in this edition, Design Week Mexico delivered amazing series of exhibitions and activities.
Vision & Tradition an exhibition that resulted from the collaboration of artisans from Jalisco and designers from both countries, Mexico and Germany. The show took place as part of the Tamayo DWM Project at Museo Rufino Tamayo. Also a Symposium called Creativity & Change took place during the week at Foro Cultural Chapultepec were our Cultural Director Marcello Dato was invited to talk about the project in Mexico and the headquarters in Berlin and Seoul.
The Design House 2016 was presented and open to the public. Plenty design studios were invited to take over the house having as result an ultimate proposal of a cave made by man full of design. And last but not least an exhibition of Kasuya Sakai at Museo de Arte Moderno. Amidst many more.
We were in charge of the closing party and it ended up in a massive blast were more than 500 people were seen laughing and dancing.
From the committee of DWM, to the German Embassy crew, including the Ambassador of Germany in Mexico Viktor Elbling, who talked on his speech about how spaces like PLATOON reminded him the feeling of Berlin after the fall of the wall were all creative scenes were hungry for being reconnected; and also recognized the work of our platoonies as a new kind of diplomacy were projects like this connect different circles under the same space.
The highlight of the party was the first INÉDITO award, a grant for $100.000 pesos given as an incentive to support and encourage the work of Mexican studios of design. The co-founder of DWM Andrea Cesarman presented Ania Wolowska (Poland) and Luis López (Mexico) heads of ITZ Mayan Wood as the winners of the INÉDITO Award for the design of the table Ocum.
The music of the night was directed by Pau Rodriguez. She delighted us with an eclectic set ranging from Future Pop to Deep vibes. To spice up the night, The movement session was in charge of Controlled Gravity an amazing aerial performance.
We are happy to have worked closely in this edition with Design Week and all the facilitators. From the Goethe Institut Mexiko to all creators and brands engaged with this massive event. This partnerships had brought to us inspiration and determination.
Mexico and Germany are two of the best countries to party so when we celebrate together the city can feel both energies reverberating new times ahead.
